OUR PARADIGM

Chiropractic was founded on the philosophy that the human body is self-sustaining, self-healing, and self-protecting.  Disease and degeneration are the result of a dysfunction in the natural systems that promote recovery and wellness. The chiropractic approach is to support and rejuvenate these systems, so that health is restored and maintained naturally.

With this philosophy in mind, Dr. Austin approaches each patient as a unique individual. The first step is a discussion about the patient’s symptoms, concerns, and relevant medical history. Once the goals of treatment are established, an examination will take place to determine the exact cause of the problem. Dr. Austin then works with the patient to create a plan that will address the source of the affliction.

The details of treatment will vary from case to case. Common aches and pains are typically caused by an imbalance in the strength, flexibility, and alignment in the muscular and skeletal systems. Correcting these issues means restoring balance. Poor alignment can be corrected through chiropractic adjustment, limitations in range of motion can be improved through myofascial release techniques, and insufficient strength can be addressed through appropriate rehabilitative exercise. In some cases, modifications to the patient’s daily activities may be necessary.

Treatment of chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or thyroid dysfunction requires a more detailed investigation to arrive at an accurate diagnosis. This consists of a thorough physical exam, blood laboratory studies, and possibly diagnostic imaging. The onset of these diseases often takes years or even decades before symptoms emerge. In most cases, there are lifestyle, environmental, and nutritional factors behind the development of the illness. Success eliminating these diseases involves identifying the variables responsible for creating the dysfunction and eliminating them. Return to normal function of the affected organ systems is pursued through diet, nutrition, and supplementation.
